Twenty-five years ago this week Poland regained its freedom after decades of communist rule.
How cataclysmic has the dawn of democracy, free-market economy and newfound liberty been for the Polish mentality?
“The biggest difference is that there are lots more smiles on people’s faces,” says Swedish photographer Georg van der Weyden based in Waraw, who has been observing Poles through his camera lens ever since he set foot in the country over a decade ago.
His long-running project, Poland through Foreign Eyes, seeks to capture Poles’ way of thinking and the native spirit.
