Polish president to discuss Baltic Pipe in Denmark

The link connecting Norway and Poland via Denmark will be one of the key items on the agenda during talks with Danish Prime Minister Lokke Rasmussen.
“The project is an example of strategic collaboration between Poland and Denmark,” said Krzysztof Szczerski, a senior aide to the Polish president.
“We hope that the presidential visit to Denmark will demonstrate that the undertaking is not only a business initiative but also contributes to Central Europe’s economic security,” Szczerski added.
The construction of a pipeline between Poland and Denmark to tap into Norwegian gas is one of Waraw's key initiatives aimed at ending the country's dependency on Russian gas.
At the end of May, Piotr Naimski, a government official in charge of energy infrastructure, announced that Poland would not be extending a long-term contract with its biggest supplier, Russian gas giant Gazprom, after the agreement expires in 2022.
The two-day visit to Denmark by President Duda, who is being accompanied by his wife, opens with a Polish-Danish Business Forum on Thursday. (aba/pk)
