Gas pipeline from Denmark will improve energy security: Polish PM

A team-up by Polish and Danish companies to build a natural gas pipeline between the two countries is a strategic project for Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło said on Monday.

After holding talks in the Polish capital with her Danish counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Szydło said: "I note with satisfaction that there is understanding [of the importance] of carrying out this project, and that thanks to this project Poland’s energy security will be much greater.”
Diversifying gas supplies and reducing its dependence on Russia is a key priority for Poland. The Baltic Pipe pipeline is to transport natural gas from Norway to Poland via Denmark.
As well as energy security, the Polish and Danish prime ministers also discussed the refugee crisis and regional security during their talks in Warsaw.
Rasmussen said that Poland is the ninth largest export market for Danish companies, of which there are over 500 in this country, employing more than 50,000 people.
He added, however, that there was still “room for improvement.” (pk)
