Leader of the Democratic Left Alliance, Leszek Miller enthused party members at a regional meeting in Szczecin over the weekend, saying that the party “will gain a better result” in the next elections so that it may “participate in the governing of Poland.”

“We have chosen a course of independence,” said former PM Miller, adding that “all the ideas which suggest that the Alliance should subordinate its strategy or organisation to other groups are – and always will be – rejected outright by the [party].”

Miller envisages that his party, which is hovering around 10 percent in recent opinion polls, will gain ground due to “real support” and not just “friendly agreements.”

Left to reclaim Mayday march?

Leszek Miller announced that the Democratic Left Alliance is preparing a demonstration to take place in Warsaw on 1 May.

Local party events will take place one day previous so that party members and supporters can come to the capital and show their “numbers, strength, and unity,” Miller exclaimed. (jb)
