Ruling party chief aims to ‘maintain these good times for Poles’

The head of Poland’s governing conservatives has said at a convention ahead of parliamentary elections that his party aims to “maintain these good times for Poles.”

Speaking at the gathering in the southern city of Katowice, Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, told supporters on Sunday: "Parliamentary elections will take place in October, perhaps in November... In this election we must score a victory which will allow us to maintain these [good] times.”
The three-day convention held by PiS and its allies as part of the United Right coalition aimed to prepare an election platform.
Kaczyński said that 10,000 people attended the gathering and that more than 400 took part in panel discussions.
The event, headlined "Thinking Poland 2019," included debates by politicians and experts to sum up the governing conservatives’ more than three-and-a-half years in power and float policy ideas for another term in office.
PiS politicians are now expected to hit the road to meet voters nationwide to rally support.
Meanwhile, the Civic Coalition, an alliance of Polish opposition groups, has embarked on a crucial vote-getting tour.
Law and Justice won a landslide in Poland’s parliamentary elections in late 2015.
