In an interview aired on the eve of America’s Independence Day by Polish private television broadcaster TVN, Georgette Mosbacher told Poles that they “will be visa-free” before she leaves her post as US envoy.

Speaking to TVN anchor Piotr Kraśko, Mosbacher said on Wednesday: “There's a framework that is mandated by Congress. We will have all of it done by September 1. The only thing that's left is getting that rate under 3 percent. We are getting close—so I still appeal—everyone, come out, get a visa. But I can tell you: you will be visa-free before I leave this post."

Mosbacher's term as ambassador ends in two years, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported.

Speaking during an event celebrating Polish-US ties ahead of American Independence Day, Mosbacher thanked the Polish people for making her "feel so welcome here in Poland."

In an earlier interview with private television broadcaster Polsat News, Mosbacher said in March that she was working to make Poland part of the US Visa Waiver Program by the time her term in Warsaw ended.

The American embassy in Warsaw in April launched a campaign to help Poland join the US Visa Waiver Program.

US President Donald Trump said last month that America could announce a decision within the next 90 days to lift visa requirements for Poles travelling to America.

He was speaking after meeting the Polish head of state, Andrzej Duda, at the White House.

The threshold for a country to enter the US Visa Waiver Program is a 3-percent refusal rate.

Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Croatia are the only EU member countries not included in the US Visa Waiver Program, according to reports.
