Over 18,500 professional and volunteer firefighters have been working to clear up the aftermath of the extreme weather, tackling tasks that included pumping out flooded cellars, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Paweł Frątczak, a spokesman for the State Fire Service, said that the most calls outs were to sites in Poland’s southern Śląskie, Małopolskie and Podkarpackie provinces.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Thursday pledged support for people hit by downpours and extreme weather.
