Polish police step up road patrols for Easter break

Police have stepped up patrols on major roads across Poland as people head off for traditional family gatherings during the Easter long weekend.

Officers will be paying special attention to the speed at which vehicles travel during the holiday period, according to Radosław Kobryś from the National Police Headquarters (KGP).
Some 5,500 traffic police will also be checking to make sure drivers are sober and that their cars are in good condition, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
The "Safe Easter 2019" road safety campaign began on Friday and runs until Monday, when many Poles will be returning home from the holiday break.
Twenty-three people were killed and 303 injured in 238 accidents on Polish roads during last year’s four-day Easter weekend, according to statistics cited by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
