Eight offices used by Poland’s largest opposition party have been evacuated after staff received email threats warning that “a bomb’s ticking,” a party official said on Thursday.
The regional offices were being checked by police, according to Piotr Borys of the Civic Platform (PO) party.
He said eight offices around the country were evacuated after staff received emails claiming: "Today the HQ of your lying party will blow up, burn in hell fire. A bomb’s ticking.”
Borys added: "We are taking these threats seriously, especially after what happened in Gdańsk, after the murder of mayor (Paweł) Adamowicz, but at the same time we are approaching them with calm."
Paweł Adamowicz, mayor of the northern Polish port city of Gdańsk, died last week from severe wounds inflicted by a knifeman during a high-profile charity event.
The murder shocked Poland and was linked by many to hate speech in a country which is bitterly divided politically.
