Prosecutors in Poland said on Wednesday they have launched a probe into a mass shooting in the French city of Strasbourg in which a Polish man died.
Bartosz Niedzielski, 36, who originally came from the southern Polish city of Katowice, was shot in the head during the attack on a Christmas market in Strasbourg last Tuesday.
The death toll of the attack rose to five after Niedzielski died from his injuries.
He had spent several days in a coma in hospital, Poland’s PAP news agency has reported.
Niedzielski and an Italian companion had tried to stop the attacker from entering a bar during the assault, according to a friend cited by the media.
The suspected gunman, Cherif Chekatt, 29, was shot dead last Thursday in a brief gun battle with police in Strasbourg, the Reuters news agency reported, citing police sources.
