Marcin Krupa, mayor of Katowice, in Poland's south, on March 6 disbanded a demonstration organised by the All-Poland Youth, a self-declared nationalist and Catholic group, which saw marchers clash with a counter rally.
Police intervened and nine people were detained. But judge Katarzyna Zadora said the march did not pose a threat to anyone’s security and should not have been disbanded.
She added that “organising a peaceful gathering and taking part in it is a constitutional freedom” in Poland and cited Krupa's previous comments slamming the All-Poland Youth, suggesting the mayor was biased.
Krupa has said he will appeal against the court’s decision.
