No one was injured by the flames; 20 people were evacuated from the area.
Local government authorities have pledged to give each victim an initial PLN 6,000 (EUR 1,400) in assistance, with more money to be paid out after the damages are assessed.
Firefighters have extinguished the blaze and the pipeline's operator has cut distribution through the leaky section.
According to the local government authorities, gas will remain cut off until Sunday.
The cause of the leak is as yet unknown.
Firefighters received reports of a suspected blaze at a petrol station a little after midnight. According to reports, the flames were dozens of metres high and the glow was visible for tens of kilometres.
After arriving at the scene fire crews realised the fire was being fuelled by a leak in a gas pipe escaping through a crevice in the ground which was tens of metres deep. (vb/pk)
