Children’s well-being is more important than protecting criminals’ privacy, Polish Deputy Justice Minister Michał Woś has said after the launch of an online database listing convicted paedophiles.

Woś told state-owned Polish Radio that the database is a “revolutionary tool” which aims to effectively protect children.
It lists the names, ages, addresses and sentences of nearly 800 “dangerous criminals” including paedophiles.
According to Polish Radio’s IAR news agency, the database has already helped to show that a southern Polish civic centre had employed a convicted paedophile, suggesting that the centre’s management failed to carry out required background checks on prospective employees. (vb/gs)
