The Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue Service (TOPR) declared the alert on Tuesday afternoon after 35 centimetres of snow had accumulated on the Kasprowy Wierch peak and the mercury at the top of the mountain plummeted to five degrees Celsius below zero.
"The conditions for tourism are difficult; starting from 1,100 m above sea level the trails are under snow," a Tatra National Park official said.
Snowfall in the Tatras was expected to continue until the end of the week.
