A three-day National Sobriety Congress begins at Warsaw’s Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University on Thursday, aiming to encourage Poles to cut back on drinking.

The meeting, under the aegis of Polish President Andrzej Duda, will be attended by addiction experts, parliamentarians, churchmen and sobriety campaigners.

The average Pole drinks more than 10 litres of alcohol a year, according to a report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
