"Last year I was vaccinated by the minister here, and … the vaccination worked and protected me from influenza," Senate Speaker Stanisław Karczewski, a physician by education, said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Health Minister Konstanty Radziwiłł, also a doctor, said that anyone who neglects to vaccinate their children against a range of diseases must be aware of the risks involved.
"Anyone who does not want to vaccinate their children must be aware that they are exposing their child but also other children in contact with them" to risks, Radziwiłł said.
The event came amid a grassroots movement against vaccination in Poland. Recently the parents of a newborn baby in the city of Białogard spirited their child away from a hospital to avoid it being vaccinated. The parents went into hiding, prompting a nationwide debate. (gs/pk)
