The decision was announced by Prime Minister Beata Szydło during a press conference on Wednesday.

“After closely studying the situation which was presented to the responsible ministers … we decided not to raise the threat level in Poland,” Szydło said.

The virus, which was first reported in Ukraine, is said to block computers with a message requesting users to pay a ransom in a digital currency in order to be able to use the machine.

Dozens of companies in Europe and beyond have reported falling victim to the attack since Tuesday afternoon.

It is unclear how many companies in Poland were affected by the attack. (rg)
