Road crashes claim 32 lives over long weekend in Poland

Thirty-two people were killed and 574 injured in 439 accidents on Polish roads over the long weekend, police have said.

Officers stopped 1,721 drink-drivers.
During the same period last year, 51 people were killed and 577 injured in 471 accidents, while 1,576 drink-drivers were stopped.
The long weekend started for many on Wednesday afternoon, the day before Roman Catholics marked the feast of Corpus Christi, a public holiday in Poland.
The worst day in terms of fatal accidents was Saturday, when eight people died and 107 were injured in 86 accidents.
