Opposition party submits resolution for gov’t constructive no-confidence vote

The largest opposition party in Poland has motioned for a constructive vote of no confidence against the ruling Law and Justice (PiS), while a PiS spokeswoman said it has “no chance of success”.

The opposition Civic Platform (PO) party which motioned for the vote against the government led by Prime Minister Beata Szydło – which has ruled since late 2015 – has put forward the name of PO leader Grzegorz Schetyna to head the new government.
“We have made a request to the [parliamentary] Speaker … after consulting with other opposition parties,” the head of the PO caucus, Sławomir Neumann, said on Friday.
“This request which was formally submitted so that Speaker Marek Kuchcinski can hold a debate and vote at the next parliamentary sitting – between 5 and 7 April,” Neumann told the PAP news agency.
PiS spokeswoman Beata Mazurek said that the motion has “no chance of success”.
“It seems to me that from the beginning – since we won the elections – the opposition has not only [organised protests] at home and abroad, but also, through actions such as submitting motions for votes of no confidence, as well as calling for ministers to resign, has taken it upon itself to cause chaos not only in parliament but among Poles,” Mazurek said.
