The commemorations comprise a wide range of events including prayers, a Sabbath dinner with the ‘Le Haim’ (To Life) toast, concerts, film shows and the tidying up of the local Jewish cemetery.
A concert on Wednesday will feature Mendy Cahan, a prominent Yiddish performer and singer, who served as Yiddish dialogue coach for the Oscar-winning film “Son of Saul”.
The Days of Remembrance of Rymanów’s Jewish Community are being held for the eighth time.
Before World War II, some 2,000 Jews lived in Rymanów, comprising almost half the town’s population. On 13 August 1942, German forces occupying Poland deported many of them to the Bełżec Nazi German death camp. All the others were executed in nearby forests. (mk/rg)
