If found guilty of the charges brought against him, the 28-year old man may face up to eight years in prison.

Following the evacuation of the Modlin airport near Warsaw, several planes were redirected to Warsaw’s Chopin airport.

Iwona Jurkiewicz, the spokewoman for the Polish police said that almost all of the 21 detainees in a police operation have now been released, but added that “one of them is still in custody, as the police has suspicions that he was the one who made the call.”

He may face up to eight years in prison, and will probably have to cover the costs of the airport’s evacuation and redirection of the flights.

Dawid Marciniak, from the Polish police headquarters press department, said officers tracked down the phone from which the call was made, and found a group of drunken revellers at a house party.

None of them admitted to making the hoax call, and a prosecutor decided to detain all the potential suspects.

Polish Radio reported that around 800 passengers were evacuated from planes and from a terminal at the Modlin airport shortly after 10 pm CET on Sunday evening. The alert lasted several hours. (tf/rg)
