A new PLN 200 banknote with enhanced security features was on Friday being put into circulation by Poland’s central bank (NBP).

"The introduction of modernised banknotes into circulation is smooth and is not causing problems,” central bank chief Marek Belka said in a statement.
According to the NBP, the level of counterfeiting in Poland is low – six or seven in every million banknotes in circulation is a forgery.
But the central bank says that technological progress in recent years meant that security features on notes needed to be upgraded.
The central bank is also working on a new PLN 500 banknote, to be introduced next year at the earliest. (pk/rg)
