Warsaw bans animal circuses

The Polish capital, Warsaw, has decided to ban circuses which make use of trained animals, the city’s mayor, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, has announced.

“Tigers will only be [found] at the zoo,” Gronkiewicz-Waltz tweeted on Tuesday announcing the decision.
Such circus shows will not receive permits from the city to operate in public areas, although they can still perform on private land.
Warsaw is not the first Polish city to ban circuses. Robert Biedroń, the mayor of Słupsk in northern Poland, has also banned circuses with trained and caged animals. (rg/pk)
