Technical studies beat universities in popularity ratings

This year, the largest number of candidates opted for IT, law and management, data released by the Ministry of Higher Education show.

"Pursuing these studies opens up a lot of job opportunities for the students, allowing them to work in an array of sectors," Piotr Pokorny, from the Institute for the Development of Higher Education told daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

One humanistic academic field going up in ratings is psychology, moving up to the fourth spot, by five places since 2014.

Further down the list, the most popular fields are, however, construction, mechanics, general engineering and robotics. There were on average 3.8 candidates per opening at polytechnics in Poland, with a total of 52,000 graduates applying for studies at the Warsaw University of Technical Studies, compared to over 42,000 applicants at Warsaw University.
