The one condition is that prospective cyclists have to commit to ride 120 km each month.
The distance covered is registered via an Android smartphone app.
The programme is to be financed by revenue from sponsors and advertisers.
According to their website, the company behind the initiative, Forwin, was founded in 2015.
“Our aim is to provide free bikes to students in cities all over Poland, supporting education, encouraging an active lifestyle, and helping to reduce carbon emissions,” the website says.
Students can apply online, via the website, and need to provide a Passport number as well as the name of the school or university which they attend.
Meanwhile, Warsaw's Veturilo bike rental system has reached new heights in popularity. In March, the number of rentals reached 6 million since the programme was launched in the capital in 2012.
Last month alone, over 10,000 new people signed up for the scheme. (aba/rg)
