The creche will be opened under the auspices of “Toddlers at University”, a joint programme set up by the Labour and Higher Education Ministries last week.
The programme will see some PLN 11 million spent on creating or upgrading facilities for students with children nationwide.
“We have already received a number of messages, mostly from the student body, to open such a centre, and this government programme will help us achieve this goal,” a spokesman for the Jagiellonian University told Polish Radio.
The university, which dates from 1364 and is one of the oldest in Central Europe and the oldest in Poland, wants to open the creche for children up until the age of three by the end of the year.
The move will follow on from a pre-school for students’ kids, which has already been in operation for the past two years. (jb)
