Materek managed to beat incumbent mayor of Starachowice with 58.54 percent of the votes.
Materek earlier worked as a regional assistant for Civic Platform MEP, Roza Thun, and later headed the party’s regional office.
He was recently ousted from PO and ran for the mayor’s office as an independent candidate. (rg/jb)
