First glimpse of Copernicus Science Centre garden

The garden offers sweeping views of Warsaw's Old Town, as well as landmarks such as the National Stadium and Stalinist-era skyscraper the Palace of Culture and Science.

Botanists will have plenty to savour in the garden of the capital's largest science museum, according to Katarzyna Nowicka, a spokesperson for the centre, with dozens of species of perennials planted, as well as shrubs.

“The landscape garden is dotted with craters and the highest elevation resembles a volcano,” she told the TVN news channel.

Science aficionados will find a Foucault's Pendulum suspended inside the volcanic structure.

Throughout the forthcoming weekend, the garden will have special opening hours from 10 am to 8 pm.

From September until the end of October, the garden will be accessible from 10 am to 5 pm, but it will be closed from November until March.

The first wing of the Copernicus Science Centre was opened to the public in November 2010. The annual Science Picnic, which is co-organised by Polish Radio, is Europe's largest event dedicated to the promotion of science. (nh)
