Opposition slams government over 2015 'Russian Year'

Opposition party Law and Justice has criticised the government for not cancelling plans for a year of cultural events promoting Russia in Poland and vice versa, as the Russian-Ukrainian crisis continues.

“We have the impression that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister [of Culture] Zdrojewski are doing politics that are just for show,” said MP Kazimierz Ujazdowski at a press conference.
The MP claimed that “one policy is aimed at the citizens and voters, in which Tusk presents himself as a great critic of President Putin, and yet the actual situation entails an intensive dialogue with Russia and trust in Russia.”
“We are amazed that after the Russian aggression in Crimea, Minister Zdrojewski has not withdrawn from the participation of the Ministry of Culture in the organisation of the Polish Year in Russia and the Russian Year in Poland,” he underlined.
“We demand that Minister Zdrojewski redresses this glaring error, namely the continuation of these projects.”
Last week, Poland's foreign ministry announced that the plans were still in place, stressing that there was no link between “events of a cultural character and the political situation concerning the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.”
