Local prosecutors has launched an investigation following press reports of pictures of the half-naked woman, taken among the old tombstones.
The photographer Lukasz Szczygielski has told the Gazeta Wyborcza daily that he wanted to highlight how neglected the Jewish cemetery had become.
“I wanted to draw attention to the neglect of the place. The cemetery is forgotten,” he said.
The photo session (see here) has outraged Jewish circles in Poland, however.
“This is not the appropriate form of drawing attention to Jewish cemeteries,” Krzysztof Bielawski from the Museum of the History of Polish Jews has told the TVP broadcaster. (ab/pg)
