The opening of the Cabinets of Antiquities is connected with the worldwide celebrations of the 300th birth anniversary and 250th death anniversary of pioneering German art historian and founder of modern archaeology Johann Joachim Winckelmann, whose book on History of Ancient Art was translated into Polish by Stanisław Kostka Potocki.
The Polish edition, published in 1815 with Kostka Potocki's own annotations, became the first Polish book on art history.
At the Cabinets of Antiquities' official opening on 1 December, Elzbieta Krajewska was taken around the exhibition at Wilanów Palace by Karolina Alkemade.
