Prime Minister Kopacz has confirmed a road map for restructuring the Polish coal mining sector.

The issue of coal in Poland goes to the heart of both the country's economy and its identity and with the state of the domestic coal mines leaving much to be desired, the government is trying to rescue the ailing sector through mine acquisitions by power utilities, with negotiations ongoing.
As Michał Owczarek reports, the government is in talks with investors about their potential capital involvement in the new coal miner (Nowa Kompania Węglowa) as part of a restructuring programme for the sector. The project is due to be finalised by 30 September, yet there are delays and fears the whole idea might be in jeopardy.
"The hardest part is behind us now. I’ll do my utmost so that the letters of intent are signed and all the necessary procedures completed by 30 September [...]," PM Ewa Kopacz said.
