Will consumers start asking questions about conventional slaughter and how the animals bred for meat are treated?
Controversies surrounding the halal and kosher slaughter of livestock, recently banned in Poland, have yielded substantial coverage on the ethical side of the practice and the issue of animal welfare. Has it sparked greater social awareness on the issue?
"I do believe that the awareness of the cruelty in slaughterhouses has recently raised dramatically, so I do believe the consumers will be much more interested in knowing where their meat comes from," says Andrzej Elżanowski, bioethicist and zoologist from the Polish Academy of Sciences, in part two of the interview.
