Recent months have seen a number of controversial steps taken by then justice minister Jarosław Gowin in defiance of the party line and in pursuit of his own, conservative social moral agenda. Allegations of Germany buying up human embryos from Poland was the last straw for the head of government, Donald Tusk.
However, political analyst Bartłomiej Biskup believes that the succession of flare-ups were only part of the reason behind the dismissal.
“Jarosław Gowin won a leading position among the conservatives [within the center-right Civic Platform party], which probably posed a threat to Prime Minister Donald Tusk,” says Biskup to Alicja Baczyńska.
