European Institutions discuss the future of memory. Report by Michal Kubicki.
First Symposium of European Institutions dealing with 20th century History, entitled European Remembrance took place in Gdansk.
The event brought together representatives of over 60 institutions from 12 countries, including Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance.
"We think that it is necessary to reflect on the history of the past century, taking different narratives and feelings into account,"
says Basil Kerski, Director of European Solidarity Centre, the institution which organised the Gdansk event.
The differences in perspectives can, however, can prove a substantial obstacle for a joint effort to narrate European history of the past century.
Michal Kubicki reports from the European Remembrance symposium.
