Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz to face world No. 1 Djokovic at Wimbledon

The 22-year-old Pole, ranked 48th in the world, will face the Serbian ace on Friday at the Grand Slam tournament in the British capital.

Hurkacz on Wednesday beat Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer 6-7, 6-1, 7-6, 6-3 in the second round.

The Pole on Monday defeated Serbia’s Dušan Lajović, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Magda Linette was on Thursday due to take on US player Amanda Anisimova in the second round of the women's singles.

Polish player Kamil Majchrzak crashed out of the men’s singles on Monday after losing to Spain’s Fernando Verdasco in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6.

Rising Polish tennis star Iga Świątek was likewise eliminated from the Wimbledon women’s singles in the first round on Monday by Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 2-6, 6-7.
