Polish K2 expedition postponed

A Polish winter expedition to the world’s second-highest mountain has been postponed from its original scheduled start at the end of this year.

According to the Polish Mountaineering Association, it has not been possible to put together a team that would be adequately prepared to attack the peak of K2, at 8,611 metres.
Several potential members of the expedition are currently recuperating from injuries.
Piotr Tomala, in charge of the Polish Winter Climbing Programme, has said there is a dozen or so young, highly promising climbers who have to gain more experience in high-altitude climbing.
“We hope to have a team for K2 ready before winter 2020,” he said.
Poland’s previous expedition to K2, which is located on the China-Pakistan border, ended without success at the beginning of 2018.
K2 remains the last eight-thousander unconquered in winter.
