Polish cyclists first and second in Tour de France time trial stage

Poland’s Maciej Bodnar on Saturday became the third Pole to claim a stage victory in the iconic Tour de France cycling race.

The 32-year-old won the Marseille time trial stage, narrowly outperforming his compatriot Michal Kwiatkowski. Britain’s Chris Froome, the overall race leader, was third.
"This is the first time I’ve won and yeah, this is something special for me", Bodnar was quoted as saying after the race.
He completed the 22.5-kilometre course in 28 minutes and 15 seconds.
This marks the third time in history that a Polish rider has taken a stage victory at the Tour de France race.
Zenon Jaskuła claimed the first ever Tour de France stage win for Poland in 1993. In 2014, Rafał Majka won one of the stages and became the race’s fastest climber.
This year, Majka withdrew from the Tour de France after a crash in which he suffered heavy bruising during a stage to Chambery, south-eastern France. (str/vb)
