More than 7.6 million fans from all over the world have used the Bundesliga’s official website to vote for the German premier league’s best 11-man lineup in the 2016/2017 season.

Lewandowski, who plays for the league’s top club Bayern Munich, won 535,426 votes, the most of all players short-listed for selection.

Best right-back

Piszczek, who plays for another leading team, Borussia Dortmund, was voted the German top division’s best right-back, with 364,090 votes.

Piszczek made a total of 25 appearances in the Bundesliga over the season, notching up five goals and five assists.

Piszczek ended the season with a bang after Dortmund on Saturday beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 to win the German Cup for the fourth time. The Pole played a key role in his team’s success, with an assist early in the game.

This marked the second German Cup for Piszczek since he began playing for Borussia in 2010.

Lewandowski has finished the Bundesliga season as the league’s second-best scorer after Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang outperformed him on the final match day.

30 goals

Lewandowski ended the season on 30 goals, one less than Aubameyang, losing his chance to claim the league’s golden boot for a third time in four seasons.

Lewandowski’s Bayern has finished top of the Bundesliga for a fifth straight season, beating runner-up RB Leipzig by 15 points.

The Poland striker’s 30 goals included three hat-tricks and eight braces.

In addition to playing a good Bundesliga season, Lewandowski scored eight goals in nine games in this season’s Champions League, where his Bayern lost in the quarterfinals to Real Madrid.

The striker has also been prolific for the Polish national team, which is well on track to advance to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Lewandowski, who captains the Polish squad, has eight goals in five matches in the campaign so far, with Poland now set to face off against Romania in Warsaw on June 10. (str/pk)
