Prime Minister Beata Szydło on Monday praised Polish athletes who came back from the Rio Olympics with medals, telling them: "You bring us great pride and joy."

“We experienced unforgettable moments thanks to your performances, your successes,” Szydło said at a meeting with the athletes at the Prime Minister’s Office in Warsaw.
Szydło pledged her government would work to provide athletes with the best possible training conditions.
She also vowed to encourage children and young people to practice sport “so that our youngest generation is interested in sports and puts aside their computers and laptops.”
Poland won 11 medals at the Rio Games: two golds, three silvers and six bronzes - the best result in 16 years.
Among those at Monday’s meeting with Szydło was Anita Włodarczyk, who took the gold in the hammer throw at Rio, where she also set a new a world record, and Piotr Małachowski, who won silver in the discus.
Fresh from her Olympic success, Włodarczyk broke her own world record with a throw of 82.98 metres during a meet in Warsaw on Sunday. (pk)
