Eighth medal for Poland at Rio Olympics

Wrestler Monika Michalik has won a bronze medal in wrestling at the Rio 2016 Olympics, bringing the total medal count for Poland up to eight.

In the decisive bout on Thursday, Michalik defeated Russian competitor Inna Trazhukova 3: 1 in the women's 63 kg freestyle.

Poland has so far won a total of eight medals at the Rio Olympics in Brazil: two gold, two silver and four bronze.

The country is close to matching its result at the 2012 games in London, when Poles won a total of 10 medals.

This year's Olympics last until Monday 22 August. (rg/pk)
