Rio 2016: Poland's Włodarczyk wins gold medal, breaks world record

Polish hammer thrower Anita Włodarczyk has won the gold medal at the Rio Olympics when she threw 82.29 metres, a world record.

“I dedicate this medal to my mum, who today celebrates her name day,” Włodarczyk said on Monday after throwing the record-breaking throw.

She beat China's Zhang Wenxiu (76.75m) and Great Britain's Sophie Hitchon (74.54m), who won the silver and bronze medal respectively.

Poland has won a total of five medals at the Rio Olympics in Brazil. (rg)
