Włodarczyk, the women’s current hammer throw world record holder and world champion, came to the Netherlands as favourite and did not disappoint.

With her winning 78.14m throw she was way ahead of her rivals – Germany’s Betty Heidler in second place with 75.77m and Azerbaijan’s Hanna Skydan in third with 73.83m.

Włodarczyk has her eyes firmly set on the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

"I'm still doing normal training. This is only an interlude in my preparation" she said.

Fans hope that in Brazil she will be ready to beat her own world record of 81.08m and achieve what has been missing in her stellar career – the Olympic gold medal. (mol/pk)
