Linette, 24, who is ranked 104th in the world, will be the only Pole in the second round of the singles in the tournament.
She will be battling for a place in the quarter-finals with Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele.
Earlier on Tuesday, Poland’s Paula Kania lost to Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 7: 6 (7-2), 1: 6, 2: 6.
Fans were disappointed to hear that due to problems with her shoulder, Polish star Agnieszka Radwańska pulled out of the Katowice tournament, which started on Monday. (pk)
