Radwańska, currently ranked No.8 in the world by WTA, seemed very much on top, taking the opening set in Beijing 6-3.

Rising star Keys (WTA No. 19) took time out for a medical following the set, and on her return confirmed that she would not be able to continue the match.

By bowing out, Keys became the seventh contestant to do so in the tournament thus far.

Radwańska will now face either Angelique Kerber or Caroline Wozniacki.

The Kraków-born player re-entered the WTA top ten last week after winning the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. (nh/rk)
