The victory marked the so-called Bulldogs' fourth ever overall triumph in the Ekstraliga.

Arka's winger Szymon Sirocki took much of the glory, scoring two tries for his team.

Meanwhile, fly-half Dawid Banaszek proved effective with the boot, notching up a further 14 points for the Bulldogs.

Rugby Union has a relatively low profile in Poland, although it is gaining in popularity.

Eight teams play in the Ekstraliga, and at present there are two other domestic divisions.

The national team plays in the the European Nations Cup First Division, which is below the six nations of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. Poland is currently in Division 1B of the former grouping, together with Moldova, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Sweden. (nh)
