Polish kids on the ball in new soccer program

Over 3,000 Polish children are now taking part in a football program which is jointly run by the club Lechia Gdansk and the Gdansk-based oil company Lotos.
The Lechia Gdansk Football Academy program, also called “white-green’s future with Lotos,” playing on the colours of the national football team, now covers 14 centres across the country and is manned by 120 qualified trainers.
Under the program participating children receive guaranteed access to equipment as well as other benefits such as being able to play in the end of school year ‘Lotos Junior Cup’.
The program also provides financial support for future football players, with over 50 sport-related bursaries awarded in 2015.
Tomasz Bochenski, director of the Football Academy, explained that “the clubs which are sponsored by Lechia will receive sports and training equipment, while young footballers will not only have the chance to train under qualified trainers and take part in matches, but will also take part in the program’s competitions.”
He added that “children are monitored and at the age of 15 years we take the decision whether they will end up in Lechia, or whether they will continue to train in their local club.” (sl/jb)
