Agnieszka Radwanska broke her racket in a rare loss of temper in her fourth round clash at the Sony Open in Miami, ultimately winning 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 against Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.

The World No.3 took over two and a half hours to see off Svitolina (No.42), with the first set going to a tie-break, before the Pole went down 5-7 the second.

It was after dropping the second set that Radwanska snapped and rammed her racket into the ground. A replacement was duly brought on for the final showdown.

However, she laughed the incident off when asked about her momentary lapse.

“That's the first time I'm hearing about that,” she told WTA.

“I don't know what we're talking about, seriously.”

Radwanska nevertheless acknowledged that she'd been kept on her toes by Svitolina.

“It was really tricky because I didn't know her and she played really solid tennis in all three sets,” Radwanska said.

“I think she's really playing some very good tennis these days.”

Radwanska will now play Slovak Dominika Cibulkova (World No.11) in the quarter-finals. (nh)
