The official World Cup 2014 match ball, the ‘Brazuca’, was unveiled at Legia Warsaw’s stadium on Thursday, even though Poland will not be in Brazil to kick the ball next summer.

The Brazuca, made by Adidas and named by a Brazilian internet poll that attracted up to one million votes, is a ball that Polish international players can look at but not touch, following their failure to qualify for the World Cup 2014 finals.
The Brazuca features a swirling multi-color ribbon design, intended to evoke the Brazilian tradition of wish bracelets, the manufactures say.
Jerzy Dudek, a former Polish international and Liverpool goalkeeper told the Przeglad Sportowy sports daily: “It’s nice, though I haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I hope it is not as controversial as some of its predecessors.”
In 2002, the ‘Fevernova ball, featured during the finals in Japan and South Korea was labelled a “ridiculous kiddie’s bouncing ball” by Italian keeper Gianluigi Buffon, while the 2010 ‘Jabulani’ was described as “dreadful” by England’s man between the sticks, David James. (pg)
