Kubica plays down latest rally crash

Both Kubica and his navigator Jakub Gerber emerged unscathed when his Subaru veered off the course, crashing into trees and flipping on its side.

“We weren't driving at all dangerously,” Kubica insisted in an interview with television station Polsat News.

“That corner was especially dirty, and unfortunately I didn't predict that,” he added.

Owing to damage to the car, Kubica had to bow out of the rally.

The 27-year-old Pole spent over a year and a half away from professional racing following a severe accident at the Ronde di Andora Rally in February 2011.

However, on 9 September, he made an assured return when he won the Ronde Gomitolo di Lana Rally.

The Krakow-born driver hopes above all to return to Formula One, and there has been talk that he may do so in 2013 or 2014 season.

However, he is not confirming any immediate follow-up to Saturday's rally at present.

“I'm going to get back to rehabilitation,” he said.

“We'll see what future plans will be and what we'll do next.” (nh)
